Do You Need a USA Visa for Indians to Transit Through the U.S.?

If you are an Indian citizen planning to transit through the United States, you may require a USA visa for Indians, even if you don’t intend to stay in the country. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Transit Visa Requirement
Most Indian travelers passing through the U.S. must apply for a C1 Transit Visa. This visa allows you to remain in the airport's international transit area while waiting for your connecting flight.

  2. Exceptions
Some travellers may not need a transit visa if they are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (not applicable to Indian citizens) or already possess a valid U.S. visa, such as a B1/B2 tourist or business visa.

  3. How to Apply
The application process for a transit visa is similar to other U.S. visas. Complete the DS-160 form, pay the visa fee, and schedule a biometrics appointment and interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

  4. Prepare Documents
Bring your valid passport, DS-160 confirmation, and evidence of onward travel, such as flight tickets.
Even for a brief transit, obtaining a USA visa for Indians ensures compliance with U.S. regulations and a smooth travel experience. Plan ahead to avoid any delays or complications.
